[the stare and the movement of cy's tail aren't lost on kiera. maybe getting to higher ground would be prudent, but taking flight could trigger an instinctive reaction...

Haha! [a warble comes from their beak as the laughter sounds in their mind.] That is one way to think of it, isn't it? I've had these for a while, really, I just don't spend quite so long in them. That big ugly thing in the sky's doing, I'm sure.

[It's a tough call. Higher ground might be preferable given the situation they're currently in, but while the tabby isn't making any immediate moves she is undeniably eyeing Keira as though they're prey.]

Oh, yes. That thing.

[She sounds scathing, grumbling lightly as her tail flicks again. It's been a deep source of irritation to her since its appearance.]

Not to worry, we know the way now.

Supposedly. Has anyone hassled you?

[for as much as a cat is a threat to a bird, a town full of humans could even more easily be a threat to a cat. most folks here don't strike kiera as the type to harm an animal, even one with the intelligence of a person, but one can't be too cautious.]

No. They have it all backwards.

[She herself has hassled a few ankles, but has yet to inflict any serious damage. She's too small to be a serious threat to any of them. The only reason she's still alive is that most of the humans seem to be surprisingly quick to sacrifice themselves, an odd choice that appears to be working, but not one she'll make herself.]

But we know the rules, don't we?

[kiera can only infer what cy means by that, but they have to agree nonetheless. even if they try to do the right thing, they're a creature of self-preservation at their core. the list of people they'd overtly sacrifice themselves for is a number smaller than the fingers on one hand, and they certainly wouldn't just go around asking for others to kill them over a vague promise of help.

no, not asking for it. perhaps putting themself in danger out of spite, maybe even accepting it should it be inevitable...]

We do. [the bird cocks their head once more, staring intently at cy.] You know, games or not, I can't say I particularly want to die.

At the same time, I wouldn't blame a cat were a carcass to end up on a doorstep -- though perhaps one far away from the tower or the inn would be the least troublesome.

[She does appear to be a little sympathetic to that. This is a friend, after all, and an at times rather entertaining cat. There aren't too many fellow felines around here, part-time or otherwise.]

It's okay. I'm good at this, you know.

[Is that reassuring? Maybe not, but it is intended to be, even if it's an open admission she has no intention of backing down.]

[just as much a declaration that kiera won't simply lie down and take it. they stare cy down, twitching their own head and legs perhaps in an effort to get her riled up and prone to making mistakes. they have no other way to gain the upper hand here, no magic and no extra strength, so their best effort is feinting to one direction before actually taking off from the ground in the opposite. whether or not it's enough to save their skin will be up to the feline.]

[Judging by the posturing as she crouches and the chattering that escapes her mouth, the attempt to rile her up is working. Unfortunately she remains far more focussed than she ordinarily would, her eyes fixated on Keira.

Her usual clumsiness has all but vanished as she makes her jump, leaping with her paws outstretched in the direction the bird makes off in.]
